What’s the damage?

久しぶりに英語ネタを一つ投稿。

とあるドラマを見ていて、こんなシーンが。

（Aがホットドッグをデリバリーで注文。Bが配達員。）

A: All right. What’s the damage?
　　　（で、いくら？）
B: Ah… $39.60.
　　　（えっと、39ドル60セントです）

この「What’s the damage?」、面白い表現だと思いました。

直訳すれば「ダメージは何（どれくらい）？」

日本語でも出費を「お財布（ふところ）に打撃」とか言いますしね。

そういう感覚はやはり世界共通なのでしょうかw

ちなみにUrban Dictionaryにはこんな解説も。

A way of asking how much a bill is, especially when out to eat. Used mostly by people who still think saying things like this are cool.

オリジナルの放送日が2006年みたいだから、９年前？ちょっと古い表現なのかな？どうなんだろう。

でも面白い言い回しだよね。
